PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS. The following prayer is found in the Book of Common Prayer, the guide to worship in the Anglican congregations. John Wesley was an Anglican minister and used this prayer as a framework for his understanding of God's dynamic work in the heart and life of person. It frames holiness theology. I am grateful to Wes Tracy for this insight.

Almighty God,
Unto whom all hearts be open,
all desires known,
and from whom no secrets are hid,
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name,
thru Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
